PropertiesIt is a colorless transparent liquid with irritant smell. It is flammable, non-toxic. Soluble in ethanol, ether and other organic solvents, it can be mixed with alcohol, ketone, ester and other almost all organic solvents in any proportion, insoluble in water. Relative density (D20/4) : 1.0694, Melting point: 0.5, Boiling point: 90.3, Flash point: 21.7 (open), 16.7 (closed), Refractive index: 1.3687.

UsesDimethyl carbonate is a carbonate ester, usually called "DMC" for short. Due to its molecular structure containing carbonyl, methyl, methoxyl and carbonyl methoxy, and thus can be widely used in organic synthesis reactions such as carbonylation, methylation, methoxylation and carbonyl methylation. It is a low toxicity, green, environmentally friendly organic synthetic intermediates, known as "green basic chemical raw materials", its use is extremely wide.

1.DMC is a new type of low toxicity organic solvent, which can replace toluene, xylene, ethyl acetate, butyl acetate, acetone or butanone and other solvents in the industries of paint, coatings and adhesives.

2.)It is a good methylation agent, carbonylation agent, hydroxymethylation agent and methoxylation agent, which has very active chemical characteristics and is widely used in food antioxidants, plant protection agents and other fields.

3.)It can replace the traditional use of toxic raw material phosgene, dimethyl sulfate, methyl chloroformate, methyl chlorine, so it is an ideal substitute for highly toxic product.

4.It can be used for non-phosgene synthesis of polycarbonate, diphenyl carbonate, isocyanate and diallyl 2,2'-oxydiethyl dicarbonate, etc.

5.In medicine, it can be used for the synthesis of anti-infective drugs, antipyretic analgesics, vitamins, central nervous system drugs, and can be used for the production of amine oxazolidinone, ciprofloxacin, β-keto carboxylate ester pharmaceutical intermediates.

6.In pesticide, it is mainly used for the production of methyl isocyanate, and then producing carbamate drugs, such as carbaryl and so on. It is also an intermediate of the herbicide sulfodialin.

7.)It can also be used as a gasoline additive in place of MTBE.

8.)High purity Dimethyl carbonate can be used as a solvent in the production of lithium ion battery electrolyte.
